Family disputes “resolved” with a knife

The Judicial Police arrested a 21-year-old man suspected of attempted murder. It happened in a café in Campo de Besteiros, Tondela, and was the culmination of a long history of disagreements between two families.
According to a source from the PJ Center Directorate, responsible for the investigation, damage caused to a vehicle belonging to the victim's family triggered the fury this time. There was no indication that the damage to the vehicle was caused by any member of the rival family, however, that was the understanding assumed.
A fact that led the victim, a 20-year-old man, accompanied by his girlfriend, to go looking for the person “responsible” for the damage to confront him about what had happened. They found him late in the afternoon, last Thursday, in a café, and the meeting was far from friendly.
According to our findings, the couple tried to get the young man to leave the café so that they could talk outside. However, he refused and soon the exchange of heated words and some pushing began, culminating in the detainee taking a knife from his pocket and stabbing the victim.
According to the PJ, there were three blows, two of which were in the chest, which caused profuse bleeding. In fact, in the heat of the confrontation, the victim hardly felt the pain of the blows, only a “slight sting” and only later did he realize that he was bleeding profusely.
After the alert was given, an INEM team immediately went to the scene, providing the necessary assistance to the victim, who was taken to Viseu Hospital, where he underwent surgery and is still hospitalized, although his life is no longer at risk.
The perpetrator of the stabbing was arrested by the PJ on Thursday night. Present in court for his first judicial interrogation, the young man is in preventive detention awaiting trial. A measure that may soon be revised, meaning that he will be placed under house arrest, that is, at home, subject to electronic surveillance. However, with one young man in prison and another hospitalized, there is no guarantee that the two families will declare a truce.
